There is one song that I put on every end-of-summer slide show:
This is why you work at camp, counselor. This is why you let campers exhaust you. This is why you teach them to tie their shoes, how to make friends, which way is north, and the proper way to hold a canoe paddle. This is why I choose people like you to make up a staff who will truly parent these children for about a week each summer.
The culture of camp is to foster dreams and help the dreamers see a future they could never imagine, and this song speaks to that culture more than any other I know. And, when summer is over, millions of children will go home with echoes of their big dreams in their heads.
That’s pretty awesome.
